everytime i read these lines (the last of the long and complex speech of caliban in Auden´s The Sea and The Mirror”) i feel a strong physical reaction. i think such reaction has to do with the last idea, “the sounded note of a restored relation”, and the hope that it provides: forgiveness is possible, life can be a coherent speech, and the only proof that we have is music, “the sounded note”.
